So much to be thankful for this year...
I have listed a few...
-My family is healthy
-My debut album was released !!!
-Its doing awesome
-My friends are incredible
-I get to play music for my job
-I am healthy and happy
-My vehicle runs good
-I live in Hawaii
-I got to go to Japan for the first time this year
-South by Southwest
-All the amazing musicians I've met and played with
-All the amazing people I've worked with as well
-That my motivation has not dwindled, but only increased throughout the roller coaster ride of 2009.
SO much more. What are YOU thankful for? Reflect, rejoice. Tis the season!
I had the best thanksgiving today. I picked my dad up from the airport in the AM.. he flew in from Maui. We went to Zippys and over some deep conversation chowed some breakfast there (to warm up our stomachs for the marathon of feasting to come)
Then he and I went and saw "Blind Side", that new movie with Sandra Bullock? It was amazing! One of the best movies I've seen in awhile-- simply feel-good, inspiring, and had football and thanksgiving in it which was appropriate.
We then hit up Lake Wilson (my dad's favorite fishing spot on Oahu) to cruize um lakeside for a bit, on our way to the North Shore.
Cleaned up grandmas house and set the ambiance, then slowly the fam started trickling in. Turkey, ham, stuffing, salad, pea salad, green bean caserole, scalloped potatoes, and more. Topped it off with my little 10 year old cousins' Pumpkin Crunch, cheese cake bites and Lemon Bars... can you say owwwwuuuccchhhhh.... that was how i felt after wards. We all sprawled out on living room floor, my 5 cousins, aunties, uncles, dad and grandparents and friends all just rapping, talking story and laughing. It was so simple yet so awesome. Those are the kinds of things you're supposed to do on this day. Never mind spending money, never mind what you eat even, its the family. As I get older I'm realizing its importance more and more.
I must say I did get sad when I thought too long about my siblings not being with us.. If my 2 brothers and sister were there, my ENTIRE family from my dads side would have been there. Sadly the last time we were together was for my great grandmothers funeral. Funerals should not be the only time families get together. But they were off at college doing their things, Jordan cooked dinner with his 2 Hawaii roommates over in San Diego, and the twins had dinner with my mom and the other grampsz in Oregon. So we were split up this year, but its all good. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. As long as they know they are loved, and appreciated, that's what Thanksgivings for.
Aloha always,
Anuhea
